It has been said many times – food brings people together. For Savor Southern Arizona Food & Wine Festival, bringing the community together is just the beginning. Some of the region’s most acclaimed chefs will come together at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., to celebrate the blooming talent running through Southern Arizona and expose what makes the area a place worth savoring. “Savor Southern Arizona brings together local producers, chefs, locally brewed craft beer and Arizona wine for an audience who love excellent food and are receptive to trying new things,” stated Deanna Chevas, Tucson Manager for Local First Arizona. “We are excited to help gain exposure for local chefs and producers while sharing the message that supporting local has a great economic impact through this inaugural culinary festival.”
Local First Arizona, Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) and Tucson Botanical Gardens have come together to bring this great event to Tucson foodies. SAACA hosts hundreds of free community-engaging events and performances each year, while also raising money for signature programs in arts education and therapeutic arts for veterans. Tucson Botanical Gardens has been educating all ages on horticulture and plant life for decades, while providing a serene oasis for locals and tourists to escape.
More than 30 local eateries will serve a full course of menu bites at Savor – like mango-scallop ceviche, lamb meatballs with balsamic glaze and basil pesto, winter squash tortellini and coffee crusted striploin with chocolate mole. Arizona wineries and breweries will pour an array of samplings, as local musicians perform acoustic serenades throughout the garden.
“Highlighting local chefs–especially those who source local meats and produce–who are raising the standard in the Tucson culinary scene is a great way to raise the profile of Southern Arizona as a destination,” Chevas stated.
