Growing Farm to School Programs in Yavapai County

October is National Farm to School Month! Monday through Friday, for about ten months every year, millions of children eat a public school lunch. For many students, especially those who live in low-income areas, this may be their only reliable meal of the day.

Over recent years, the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has taken huge steps to enhance school meals to reduce climbing rates of childhood obesity, by increasing access to fresh produce, reduced fat or fat free dairy products, whole grains and lean meats. Additionally, the NSLP has introduced programs to localize their procurement of fresh produce!

In this spirit, Local First Arizona has partnered with the Farm to School Network, Paradigm Permaculture Coalition and several more sponsors to host the Yavapai County Farm to School Connection 2013! The Growing Farm to School Programs in Yavapai County event will occur over October 18th & 19th, in beautiful Prescott AZ. At this event, we will feature informative presentations, silent auction, farm tours, and a Farm to School Panel, featuring regional advocates, local school districts, and food service/safety personnel.
