Tucson Local Beer Dinner Satisfied

saisonOn a recent Sunday afternoon, 30 people came together to enjoy local beer, locally grown and produced foods, and great company. Local First Arizona and the Food Conspiracy Co-op collaborated to create this local beer dinner with Dragoon Brewing Company.Every year, LFA heads up a celebration of locally owned businesses with it's annual Independents Week, the week around the 4th of July. The Co-op's annual Eat Local Challenge overlapped Indie Week running July 1 - 14, 2013. How better to celebrate local businesses and local foods than a beer dinner at a Tucson brewery?

Eric Greene, head brewer of Dragoon Brewing Company, paired each course with a locally brewed beer to compliment the flavors. The Co-op's Conspiracy Kitchen Chef, Jesse Powell, announced each course starting with a salad of micro greens, melon, prosciutto and asiago. Forever Yong Farm and Sunizona Family Farms supplied the melon and greens. Tangy Saison Blue beer paired nicely with this sweet and salty salad. Served up next was a bruschetta with heirloom tomatoes from Forever Yong and pesto made with basil grown by Sleeping Frog Farms. Dragoon's Ojo Blanco went well with this dish since this Belgian Wit is light and tasty.

main courseThe main course was a locally raised beef steak from Sky Island Brand / 47 Ranch, grilled zucchini and rice pilaf flavored with sage grown by Sleeping Frog. Dragoon's popular Stronghold Session Ale, a brew that is dark in color but light-bodied and richly flavored, complimented the main course. Chef Jesse topped himself with the final course, a creme brûlée made with raw, organic milk from Save Your Dairy. The creaminess was balanced with a tang and smoky heat of prickly pear and chipotle syrup. Dragoon's Imperial Ale is a dark, rich beer very reminiscent of coffee that paired perfectly with the creme brûlée and ended the dinner nicely.

Bringing local beer, food, businesses and people together, this event was a special way to spend a lovely summer evening. Stay tuned to Dragoon Brewing Company, Food Conspiracy Co-op and Local First Arizona for future events featuring local culinary delights.
