Today’s Local First Arizona member spotlight is on The Dhaba: In our many years of traveling through the United States, living in various "big" cities, and then later returning to Phoenix, what we've uncovered is that this old desert town is rich with diversity and culture. Pockets of locally owned restaurants and businesses have sprung up offering Valley residents an ethnic and multi-cultural experience that was once only found in larger cities. India Plaza, located in Tempe, is one of those places. Open seven days a week, India Plaza is a one-stop destination for Indian food, culture and products. The plaza includes the Dhaba restaurant, a snacks café, cooking school, a food market offering herbs and spices difficult to find elsewhere, a gift boutique and beauty salon which offers services including the ancient art of threading, henna application and yoga classes. In April, the plaza celebrated ten years in business, solidifying its place as the local epicenter for Indian fare, services and goods. If you haven't yet experienced real Punjabi food at the Dhaba or taken a stroll through the plaza, we highly recommend you check it out!
