Bring in the New Year with Family-themed Adventure!
Just as train tracks link distant locations, Verde Canyon Railroad forms a connection through time and space, comprised of precious memories with loved ones celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of another. On Saturday, December 31st from 1:00pm-5:00pm wilderness fans of all ages will enjoy a “Family New Year’s Eve” aboard Verde Canyon Railroad.
As the historic train travels heritage rails dating from 1912, passengers enjoy comfortable seating and striking panoramic vistas of the riparian winter canyon. Constructed before Arizona was even a state, these tracks travel centuries of time immemorial, passing ancient geology, Sinagua cliff dwellings and wild places where the old west remains unspoiled by modern life.
Migrating bald eagles return to the Upper Verde late in the year, joining the resident population of local raptors during nesting season. The deciduous foliage now absent allows travelers to witness the Verde Canyon’s magnificent red rock bone structure in all of its glory. The towering cliffs and sculptural pinnacles make for awe-inspiring family photos as the train snakes through its wild and winding route. Adjacent open-air viewing cars give a refreshing taste of the Canyon’s crisp winter air, making cheeks rosy and inspiring toasts of hot cocoa between the generations. Naturally, champagne is also available on board, as is full bar service.
